The Great Pyramid of
Giza: Seeing the Pyramids of Egypt was one of my life
long dreams. I was getting tried of seeing too many
documentaries on PBS and Discovery Channel on the Pyramids.
We finally decided to make the trip this April, 2000. We
bought a guided tour from Embassy of Egypt in Houston. The
tour included nine days of dedicated escorted tour only for
two of us of Egypt with accommodations in Five/Four star
hotel.
What I found out is that Pyramids are only
one of the many things you can see in Egypt. The whole
country is full of wonders from North to South. There are
couple of interesting facts I discovered on my trip to
Egypt. Number One... The Country of Egypt would starve to
death if they did not have the Pyramids and Number Two....
There are more Tour Guides than the the tourist.
The Pyramids of Giza is one of the seven
wonders of the world. Today they are the only "wonder" to
have survived the ravages of time... almost intact.
The great Pyramids of Giza was built during
the period 2085-2011 BC. The Giza pyramids... Cheops,
Chephren and Mycerinus were a Grandfather, father, son
construction. Cheops pyramid was built with around 2.3
million limestone blocks, each weighing an average 2.75 tons
- 6.8 million tons in all. Originally 482 feet high, the
loss of its shiny outer casing lowered it to 449 feet.
